About Dharamshala Tourism
Dharamshala is a beautiful hill station. It's location is near about 17 km North-Eeast of Kangra distric in Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala,is the haven of the Kangra valley,it is also the trading post of the "Kangra district(Himchal Pradesh)" Dharamshala is at the distance of 239 km from Chandigarh, 252 km from Manali, 322 km from Shimla and 514 km from New Delhi.
"Dharamshala city is at the foot of Dhauladhar and has a Grand view of snowy peaks, Pine trees, Tea gardens and Natural beautiful hills. If you want to enjoy the cool and snowy season then come to Dharamshala in winters. In India it is best hill station and tourism place for summers and winters . Dharamshala now really has become international, with a number of Tibetan settlements and the residence of Noble Laureate the 'Dalai Lama'. Dharamshala is devided into two distinct parts : lower Dharamshala the civil and business area with Courts and Kotwali bazar and upper Dharamshala composed of places like Mcleod Ganj,Bhagsu naag and Nadi".Best period to visit this place in the year , may keep off snow covered winters during December and January.
Places to visit in Dharmshala:-
Mcleod Ganj :-Maclod Ganj is very beautiful and peaceful place. Once tourist come , they want to come again and again. The presence of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama and tibtian peopels made the life Maclo more active. Macleod Ganj is international tourist place. It is a very cold in winter (October to End of March).During the end of year (December and January), snow and sleet are common and most of the places are covered with snow.In middle of year(July and August) Monsoons offer very havey rainfalls. As we know Dharamshala is famous for HEAVY RAIN in asia.

Bhagsunag :- ( 11 km. from Dharamshala and 3km. from MAclod Ganj)Bhagsunag is more cold then Maclod Ganj. Bhagsunag is most popular for its old Shiva temple, a fresh water spring, water falls and slate mines.Bhagsunag can be Access by road. The Bhagsunag water falls is also main charm of Mcleodganj. When you'll reach at waterfall, then you'll not stop your feelings for enjoy. You can take a dip in the cold cascade water.

St. John's Church :- ( 8 km. from Dharamshala town ) The church lies in the forest between Mcleod Ganj and Forsyth Ganj. It has a monument dedicated to Lord Elgin, one of the viceroys of India, who died at Chauntra ( Mandi district ) and was buried here in 1863 A.D. The Church has lovely spotted glass windows and there is a Christian cemetery around it. It is ideally situated in the majestic 'Deodar' forest.

Dharamkot :- ( 14 km. from Dharamshala town ) It is placed at the top of a hill, it is most popular picnic spot affords a overview of the kangra valley and the Dhauladhar ranges. every one can reach Dharamkot by a simple road from Maclod Ganj and Bhagsunag.Many small restaurant and shops are in the way for relaxation and for drinking. The scenery from Dharamkot is simply breath taking. You can also meet the Gaddi folks.

Triund :-17 km. from Dharamshala, at an altitude of 2,827 metres.The snowy place starts just 5 km. It is also a most popular trekking and picnic spot.Many tourits like to visit this place mostly foreigners. Those people who likes mountains and hills and want to take cool and pure breath, they are advised to visit this place. It is the famous trek route for local people as well as for tourists.

Kareri :- ( 22 km. ) Altitude 2,166 metres. Kareri lake is surrounded by green meadows, Oak and Pine trees, making it an idyllic place to visit.To reach the kareri lake is very difficult.

Dal Lake :- Dal Lake lies between Forsyth Ganj and Nadi, amidst hills and deodar trees and is 11 km. from Lower Dhramshala.It is a starting point for excursion and trekking and is located next to Tibetan children's village and Asia Health resorts which is famus 3 Star Hotel.

Kangra Fort:-In 1786 Maharaja Sansar Chand took control of the fort. In 1846 the Kangra Fort fell into the

hands of the British. The Fort is located on the Banks of the two Rivers . In the foreyard of the Fort are the temples of Laxmi Narayan and Adinath dedicated to Jainism. Inside the Fort are two ponds one of them is called Kapoor Sagar. At prsent the fort is under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India. It was badly damaged in the 1905 earthquake.

The best and nearest airport from dharamshala is "KANGRA (GAGGAL) AIRPORT"
located at a distance of 15 km. from Dharamshala. Many other airports provide regular flights are : Jammu 200 km., Amritsar 210 km. and Chandigarh 260 km.
The nearest railway station from dharamshala is Kangra Mandir Railway Station.You can take rail for kangra mandir station from Pathankot. The distance of Pathankot to Kangra Mandir station is near about 95 km. and Kangra mandir station is 17 km. from Dharamshala.
Eevery state of country is linked by roads. The Private and the Himachal Road Transport Corporation provide buses
service. Delhi, Pathankot, Chandighar, Dehradoon, Jammu,
Amritsar to dharamshala and
vice-versa.
